Sadler’s Wells Theatre

Sadler’s Wells is a world leader in contemporary dance presenting a vibrant year-round programme of dance of every kind – from tango to hip hop, ballet to flamenco, Bollywood to cutting-edge contemporary dance – bringing the best of international and British dance to audiences at three theatres in London.

The theatre also commissions and produces original new work for tours it to major arts venues around the world. Since 2005 it has helped to bring 80 new dance works to the stage.

Sadler’s Wells goal is to grow the public’s enjoyment and understanding of dance by making dance relevant, meaningful and enriching. At the same time Sadler’s Wells seeks to develop the art form by supporting artists and the creation of exciting new work.

The main theatre is located on an historic site in Rosebery Avenue in Islington. Work is also presented in a studio theatre – the Lilian Baylis Studio – and in Sadler’s Wells’ West End home, The Peacock Theatre.

Associate Artists

Russell Maliphant has been an Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells since 2005 – the theatre provides a home for artists. The group of 16 Associate Artists and companies are at the heart of Sadler’s Wells and they represent the most exciting dance talent working in contemporary dance today. Sadler’s Wells supports its Associate Artists by commissioning new work from them, providing access to Sadler’s Wells’ resources such as rehearsal studios, technical expertise, office space and a creative base.

Sadler’s Wells’ productions have travelled to every corner of the globe and to cities on every continent. Many of these new works have achieved critical and commercial acclaim and draw attention to dance as an important contemporary art form.
